I was lucky enough to attend When Words Collide in Calgary as a presenter. Happening in the Hyatt Regency in downtown Calgary, it's a massive conference with panels, workshops, special guests, live readings, lectures, and a marketplace – all of which focus on writing (with a leaning towards speculative fiction).

Monsters have fascinated me ever since I was a little kid. I remember my public school library had a small section all about classic monsters, with a book for each of the big greats (Creature from the Black Lagoon and Godzilla were my favourites), delving into how they came to be, both in the real world and on the page. When I wrote the 1st draft of Sisters of Jade, I didn't know it was going to be a trilogy. Only once I was done did I know these characters had fallen into something big. It was then that I started to craft the larger story.
